Mark Walts and Susan Scott : Frequented Spahn Ranch
The same jailhouse confessions that helped investigators initially connect the band of misfits living in the Panamint Mountains to the gruesome killings that terrorized Los Angeles hinted at other deaths. Manson follower Susan Atkins boasted to her cell mate on November 1, 1969, that there were "three people out in the desert that they done in." Other stories surfaced. In the absence of bodies, they were forgotten and the stories shelved.
On July 17, 1969, 16-year-old Mark Walts disappeared while hitchhiking from Chatsworth, California, to the pier at Santa Monica, to do some fishing. His battered body shot three times and possibly run over by a car, was found
next morning in Topanga Canyon. Walts was a frequent visitor to Manson’s commune at the Spahn Movie Ranch, and the dead boy’s brother publicly accused and pointed Manson out in the murder, but after investigations came to a halt no charges were filed.
Not long after the time of Walts’ death, a “Jane Doe” corpse was discovered near Castaic, northeast of the Spahn Ranch, tentatively identified from articles of clothing as Susan Scott, a “family” member once arrested with a group of Manson girls in Mendocino, one of those girls being Helter Skelter killer Susan Atkins. Scott was living at the ranch when she dropped out of sight, and while the Castaic corpse remains technically unidentified, Susan has not been seen again.
Mrs. Dulaney and Mrs. Warren savagely beaten and garroted
While in Booneville California, as a nineteen year old Susan Atkins was arrested for possession of Marijuana. While there under arrest, Manson was known to have visited her in the courtroom area, one sheriff had recalled. Many Family members were guests of a man off of Booneville road and visited there at the time of the Ukiah area murders.
The Manson Family were investigated in this case as well as many others.
Jane Doe 59: Mentioned in Helter Skelter with motive
Her body was discovered November 16, 1969, trapped in some brush down an embankment in
the area off Mulholland Drive and Skyline Drive, in Los Angeles. She had over a 100 stab wounds, particularly along
her neck and upper body, “overkill” that, the motive would suggest either a maniac or love gone wrong, a cop who covered the case since the beginning would say.
She was dead for a day or so. She was Caucasian, in her early twenties, 5’9 ½”, 112 pounds, tinted
brown hair, green eyes, with a one and one-quarter inch scar horizontally under her right breast and a light brown birth mark on her right buttock, the size of a quarter. She had 16 silver amalgam dental fillings.
After news accounts about Jane Doe were released, a Spahn Ranch worker familiar with Family members identified her from a composite and clothing description as a “hippie” girl known as “Sherry” who came from Simi Valley.
But “Sherry from Simi Valley” was located, very much alive. The problem is that Family members frequently used aliases, interchangeably, and also borrowed and exchanged clothes.
In Helter Skelter Bugliosi mentions Jane Doe No. 59 and wonders if her murder might be related to the mysterious death, on Nov. 5,1969 of Manson associate John Haught, also known as “Zero.” She may have been present at the ranch with the group then accompanying them at Haught’s death and killed so she wouldn’t talk. Stabbing and overkill were certainly the Manson Family’s style. The Tate murder scene on Cielo Drive is about 6 miles from where Jane Doe was found.
The LAPD hopes the tapes will hold new clues about the Family’s involvement in other unsolved murders. There’s no indication police are looking in particular for clues about Jane Doe No. 59, but her case has always been a “Manson possible,” so it’s likely she’s on their list.
Jane Doe 59. is on the NAMUS database. (National Missing and Unidentified Persons System). Her fingerprints, dental chart and DNA profile are available there.
Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring tied in life and in death
Self Proclaimed Satanist Sammy Davis Jr. was friends of Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring, with a mutual friendship through Anton Lavey of the Church of Satan and throughout other Hollywood in crowds. In his book and in interviews Sammy has said that Jay Sebring was hogtied over the rafters in a satanic mock sacrificial ritual where Jay was hooded with a rope around his neck tied to a rafter, standing on a chair. This all happened before the murders and he also said that someone wanted the members to actually kill Sebring for real in the mock ritual that night, but they didn't. Then later, as was done in the mock ritual, was done for real at the Tate residence, or at least as reported in one, of the many conflicting police reports of this case. Who wanted Jay Sebring dead? Sammy never did mention the person by name who wanted to kick the chair out from under Jay and hang him from the rafters that night.
Sammy also stated that on the night Jay Sebring was murdered by the Manson Family at Sharon Tate’s house, Sammy had planned to attend but a last minute engagement was booked in Los Angeles. Due to fatigue, he decided not to attend Tate’s party. It was also rumored Mama Cass Elliott was to be there and back out as well at the last minute.
